It's the second book of a fantasy trilogy, "Estrela de Nariën" (The Star of Nariën).
In the first book, Susana explains us many things about the huge amount of characters: the guardian of the star and her husband, the Elves, the Kingdom Knights, the Lady of Wisdom's Avatars (nothing related with the movie at all, these are humans with the power to heal and see the future)... Lakshmi and Aheik, Zahara and Lochan... Étain and her plan to get the star of Nariën (that has the power to destroy... everything) and to kill everyone that stays between her and her goal.
In this one, Étain already destroyed the temple where the apprentices of the Lady of Wisdom learn their way to become Avatars or just "future readers" or just healers (it all depends on their nith - level) and got the capital, Rodänrien, with the help of barbarian cannibals, the Shatrus.
Aheik, Kyran, Rhys, Lochan and others go back to Rodärien to save the king, but many get killed, Kyran gets trapped and others escape. Étain got one thing she wanted: Kyran. She made him think Aheik and his friends betrayed him and ordered him Captain of the new Knights.
I won't say more, just that the star of Nariën finally re-borns. The rest, you should find out for yourselves!
